"Redistricting in Virginia - Past, Present and Future"- Professor Charles Kromkowski and Director of Voter Engagement for VCET Ms. Erin Corbett

PS: THERE WILL BE MELLOW!!!

Virginia's 2021 redistricting process has been the most watched in the state's history, being the first since the 2011 alleged partisan gerrymander by the Virginia state legislature. In 2020, with the overwhelming passage of a constitutional amendment establishing a bipartisan commission to redraw maps, many hoped for a fair and civil redistricting process. However, mired in controversy and stuck in partisan paralysis, the Virginia Redistricting Commission (VRC), evenly-divided on party lines, deadlocked on new voting maps — either for Congress or for either chamber of the state legislature. Join Dr. Charles Kromkowski and Ms. Erin Corbett for a dialogue about history and principles surrounding redistricting in Virginia, a behind the scenes look at the ongoing redrawing challenges by the VA Supreme Court and failure of the VRC, and looking forward to what potential alternative solutions there are to alleviate the polarization that lies at the heart of the redistricting process.
