LGBTQ+ MEDIA NIGHT

Thursday, March 30, 2023 - 19:00
NEWCOMB HALL
  • We’ll be watching the 1990 documentary Paris Is Burning. This film documents the ballroom scene of New York City in the 1980s. Focused primarily on LGBTQIA+ people of color participating in ballroom—a kind of pageant that established a space separate from drag queen pageants that had featured primarily-white judging—the film addresses the impact of the AIDs epidemic, classism, and racism on its documented community. At the same time, it is a celebration of that community. The documentary heavily influenced the show Pose, also an incredible work. This is all to say, this doc’s a big deal! It’s about 80 minutes, so it’ll fit neatly into one event.
  • As always, we’ll have cookies and pastries from MarieBette!
